Our Guide to Blogs, Newsletters and Podcasts in Fintech and Beyond

It is important to keep track of all news and constantly educate yourself about new companies and trends happening in fintech - but there is just way too many resources available out there. That is why we at The Booster Labs have decided to give you a small guide through blogs, newsletters and podcasts that we follow and believe are worthwhile fintech (and also some of our favourite non-fintech) resources to keep you in the know.


There are many high quality fintech-focused blogs out there. Our favourites are The Financial Brand, The Finanser and and Daily Fintech. Why do we like them?

The Financial Brand is a leading digital publication focused on marketing and strategy issues affecting retail banks and credit unions. It was founded in 2008 by Jeffry Pilcher. It is a great resource for C-level banking executives looking for the latest ideas, insights and information about how financial institutions build their brands and innovate their banking portfolios.

At The Financial Brand, you can find articles, research and reports on a range of critical issues facing banks and credit unions, along with real-world examples, ideas and practical advice about how to succeed in retail banking. The Financial Brand also covers many issues of marketing, branding, retail channels, mobile, product design and sales strategies in the banking space.

The Finanser is a blog written by Chris Skinner. He is known to be an independent commentator on the financial markets and fintech through his blog. Chris is also a Chair of the European networking forum The Financial Services Club and Nordic Finance Innovation, as well as being a Non-Executive Director of the Fintech consultancy firm 11:FS. In his day-to-day blog, he writes mostly about FinTech and banking industry.

Daily Fintech is an insight-driven blog. It tracks news happening in the world and aims to generate unique insights each day. Daily Fintech proud themselves by having FinTech experts with years of experience as entrepreneurs, bankers, senior executives, technologists, investors and consultants. As a FinTech blog without any ads, Daily Fintech drives its revenue by offering private advisory services for companies.

Holland Fintech has been in business since 2014 as a blog focused at fintech and a networking platform. It organizes events for connecting people and organisations, enabling consumers and businesses profit from innovation and development. When connecting people, Holland Fintech organises various events, such as meet-ups, short event sessions or even help in organizing large fintech summits such as Finnovate Europe, or London Blockchain Week. Podcasts are perhaps the next big channel to consume media. They have been around for ages but are only now becoming truly mainstream and saturated with thousands of different formats. At The Booster Labs, we prefer to listen to these:

Breaking Banks is a podcast exploring the FinTech evolution and disruption of banking. most important technological and social trends shaping the world and its future. It is hosted by either Brett King- an Australian futurist, author co-founder of Moven, or Jason Henrichs- Investor and CEO of PerkStreet Financial. Some of the topics include FinTech, RegTech, cryptography, robotics, AI and many more. It has more than 500,000 listeners from 72 countries worldwide. Fintech Insider 11:FS this bi-weekly podcast embodies FinTech podcasting. The 11:FS guys speak to subject matter experts for deep dives on APIs, AI, digital banking and all other areas disrupting our industry. They do it by creating one-on-one interviews with the thought leaders and innovators transforming financial sectors. We believe that whether you are new in FinTech or already an expert, there is always lots of valuable insights in these podcasts, that you won´t read in any of the blogs. Masters of Scale by Reif Hoffman (non-fintech) is a great business podcast hosted by Reid Hoffman, Co-founder of LinkedIn and Investor at Greylock (Venture Capital firm from Silicon Valley).

In each episode, Reid shows how companies grow from zero to hero, testing his theories with legendary leaders. It won the 2018 People´s Voice Webby for Best Business Podcast. Interesting fact about this podcast, Masters of Scale is the first American media program with the commitment to 50-50 gender balance for quests in episodes. You can subscribe and listen to it on both Spotify and Apple music.

Andreessen Horowitz (non-fintech) This legendary venture capital firm based out of Silicon Valley, California backs bold entrepreneurs was founded in 2009 by Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz.

Their podcast discusses tech and culture trends, news, and the future -- especially as ‘software eats the world’. It features industry experts, business leaders, and other interesting thinkers and voices from around the world. These are represented by CEOs, or CTOs of successful technology companies, with domain expertise ranging from biology, through crypto to security systems for market places and financial services. Business wars (non-fintech) as the name itself suggests, is a podcast featuring companies who fought or are still fighting against each other on the market. The episodes focus on competitive fights between legendary companies such as Netflix and HBO, Nike vs Adidas, or Blockbuster against Netflix. This one is more of a story-telling then descriptive podcasts which makes it for a very easy listening. The Episodes come out on a non-regular basis but believe us when we say, there´ll be plenty of great quality listening once you start! Listen to these inoperative stories on Spotify or iTunes.

Recode Decode (non-fintech) is a podcast hosted by Kara Swisher, Silicon Valley´s most revered journalist, which hosts interviews with tech experts, politicians, celebrities and more about their big ideas and how are they trying to change the world. Some of her hosts include figures such as Tesla CEO Elon Musk, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton or Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Kara is doing her best to get the right information from people, even if it means asking many questions and interrupting if she thinks it is needed. Check out Spotify or iTunes.

The Knowledge Project (non-fintech) The aim of the show is to create a world-class multidisciplinary education by exploring the ideas, lessons, and methods that help us truly master the best of what other people have already figured out.
